Siam 28 – Bring Tradition Thai Cuisine to CWB

。Siam 28 - 將泰北特色帶到銅鑼灣。

泰菜總是有讓小妹心動的地方,它的香辣、色彩、熱度總是讓人不經意的喜歡上。從友人口中聽到銅鑼灣開設了新泰國菜館Siam 28,便爽快的答應邀約一起來個午餐。以泰小碟Thaipas 作主打,適合不少在銅鑼灣的上班族,下班後把酒談風說月,也可以食上幾款小碟,開開心心又一餐。

Thai cuisine is one of my favourite cuisines due to its spiciness, colors and heat. Heard that a new Thai restaurant, Siam 28, has opened in Causeway Bay and I couldn’t help to accept the invite to try it. With the concept of Thaipas (thai+tapas), it would attract some office ladies in Causeway Bay for an drink after work.

既然以泰小碟作主打,那當然也要先介紹給大家。 Siam 28 的老闆有泰國血統,廚師也是正宗泰國人,菜式味道正宗也自然更合理。很有特色的炸通菜,是我在泰國食過之後便一直記掛著的味道,必須用上泰國的幼通菜才會做出香脆的口感,而廚師上粉漿的技巧也十分重要,這裡的真沒讓人失望。沾上沙爹醬或羅望子醬也不錯的啊!

Understand that the owner of the restaurant and chef are thai, and it made me have a high expectation to the food here. Our lunch began with some thaipas, such as Pak Boong Tod (Deep fried morning glory). It is a signature dish in Northern Thailand. It is difficult to manage the juiciness of the morning glory as well as its crispiness, but the chef had done a good job here. Oh right. There are 5 different sauces served on each table and all are tailor-made by the chef. Satay sauce and tamarind sauce go well with the morning glory.

除了炸通菜外,炸女婿蛋亦是十分有傳統泰國特色的菜式,原本這道菜真的是外母做給女婿食的,意思不言而予。用上炸鵪鶉蛋,醬汁少許酸甜的,味道不錯。另外,嗜辣的朋友可不能錯過香辣燒鴨鬆沙律,辣度十足的沙律,很醒胃,鴨鬆也煮得剛好,配上乾椒和香蔥,真的了不起。食得辣的朋友真的要試試。

Besides, Kai Look Yuey (deep fried quail eggs) is also a dish full of thai characteristics. This dish is usually cooked by a mom to her son-in-law. I guess you can imagine what it symbolises. The sauce with the quail eggs is sweet and sour and reminds the freshness of the dish. 🙂  If you love spiciness, you would probably like Larb Ped Yang (minced roasted duck salad). Roasted duck is mixed with dried chilli and onions to bring out the spiciness. So spicy and would be a great partner with cocktails.

主菜也食過幾款,但最讓人回味的必數泰北牛腩湯,辣度十足,但是那種清新又帶微酸的辣,刺激味蕾。火候控制得很好,牛腩是微微彈牙的,少許煙韌而吸收了濃香的辣湯。另外,咖哩炒蟹也相當不錯,正宗泰式風味,少許甜而微辣,如蛋絲再多一點,那便更好了。

Main courses are definitely as outstanding as the thaipas. Tom Sab (Northern Thai Beef Brisket Soup) is for sure on the top of my list. Spicy, fresh with a strong after taste. It is not a thick and creamy soup but a light one that would give you a burning after taste. The beef brisket is so tender and the turnip also provides a good balance of sweetness to the soup. On the other hand, curry crab is quite nice with little spiciness, but would be better if more egg yolks are in there.

食過這麼多辣的菜式,一點甜會幫忙解辣,芒果糯米飯總是泰式甜品中的最愛。糯米飯一個個飯團煎得金黃,配上椰奶和芒果,簡單的就已經很美味了。

After having several hot and spicy dishes, a little sweetness would solve the heat. Khao Niew Ma Muang (Mango with pan fried sticky rice) is also my favorite among all the thai desserts. The sticky rice here is well pan-fried and formed a small triangle shape. Cute little ones have a little dry texture and taste better than the normal sticky rice. 🙂 Served with fresh mango and coconut milk, it has become the perfect ending of the meal.

開業兩個月,小妹我已經來食過兩次了,都是很滿意的捧著肚子走,環境不嘈吵,與鄰桌又有空間,是不錯的用餐地點,值得推薦。

Siam 28 has opened for more than 2 months and I have visited twice with satisfaction. Nice ambiance and plenty of personal space between tables. It’s a nice dinner place in Causeway Bay with good quality of Thai food. Highly recommend.
